WORLD PEACE AND PRAYER DAY
WORLD SUMMIT ON PEACE AND TIME
June 21, 1999, Costa Rica
Statement prepared by Jose and Lloydine Arguelles on behalf of Chief Arvol Looking Horse, Nineteenth Generation Holder of the White Buffalo Calf Pipe, and all Indigenous Peoples everywhere.
There is one Creator, one plan, one time to come together and synchronize for world peace. No past, no future, no problem. We wipe away the tears. We dissolve our boundaries. We reconcile and we forgive. We stand together as one nation of peace. Peace is the way. By becoming a sovereign nation in the new time of peace, peace will be restored on Earth. This is how it is. Aho!
World Peace and Prayer Day is the time to pray with the Earth. The World Summit on Peace and Time is the time to prepare for the time of peace. To choose a time of peace is to exercise our right to peace. To become a sovereign nation of peace synchronized in time, by time, as time, is a choice we make on behalf of the Earth for seven generations to come. We do this that the hoop of the nations may be healed and the tree of peace flower in the center once again.
To go from a time of war to a time of peace we must give up separation and thinking about what divides us. To realize peace, we must unify with all that is. This is done here and now. Peace is in us, so it is for us to become peace. To go to a time of peace, you must consciously leave the time of war. This is a choice we make.
We recognize in making this choice that the colonialism of the time of war has been locked into the Gregorian Calendar since the year AD 1582. This is the year that the sacred time of our ancestors was foreclosed. We lost our land. We lost our time. We lost our pride. But we have learned to forgive and so the doors to sacred time are opening for us once again.
Now the time has come to return to the sacred way, which can only be guaranteed by returning to the sacred time. A way has been prepared to declare sovereignty in the time of peace, the return to the sacred way known by all the original people. If we do not take the opportunity to pray together and exercise our right to peace through sovereignty in time, if we do not take this action, we shall let down the Earth, and the Earth shall then have her way.
Mutual support is the law that binds all followers and keepers of the true inner flame of peace. We are in support of the Indigenous People of the Earth, and we are in support of the new calendar of peace to replace the old calendar of war and colonialism. We affirm this support with an attitude of forgiveness and reconciliation, for this is a sacred path and a sacred thing we do.
To save the Earth we return to sacred time. Living in the old calendar has not secured our future. Returning to the sacred time of the calendar of peace, we restore the sacred future for seven generations to come. It was the same perpetrating agents that dispossessed us of our lands as imposed upon us their time, the calendar of colonialism by which we were dispossessed of our sacred time and sacred way of life as well. The calendar change is a real time leverage point to bring about justice, the sacred time and with it, world peace.
We make the choice of sovereignty in time because it is in accord with the needs of the Earth. In becoming a sovereign nation of peace living in sacred time, we re-establish the original covenant. We take responsibility for our lives, and place ourselves humbly before the Creator. In making this choice, we invoke the Banner of Peace and the right to make peace through culture. The Banner of Peace is protection of our right to peace. The Banner of Peace is a sign of the presence of the nation of peace. We bear no arms, only peace. The Banner of Peace is the symbol of our truth. Through pursuing the culture of peace under the protection of the Banner of Peace, we automatically abolish war.
By taking the step of supporting the People's Declaration of Calendar Reform we are securing the return of sacred time. With sacred time there is sacred order and the establishment of the culture of peace. We ask all peoples to join us in returning to the sacred time. This sacred time has always been. it is only by living in the artificial time that we could forget about the sacred time. Now we see the way of time, and the time of peace is calling us. Reform the calendar, return to sacred time through the Calendar of Peace.
We call on all peoples to go to their sacred sites on World Peace and Prayer Day. And after that, we ask all people to join us in returning to the sacred time. It is a way that has been prepared by the Earth. Let us not lose our way now. To support the World Peace and Prayer Day is to support the World Summit on Peace and Time. The time to unify in time is now.
To take up a new calendar is to disincorporate the old order. Let there be a new sovereignty in time. Let the hoop of the nations be made whole in the shining light of sacred time. This we shall accomplish by the exercise of our sacred right to peace.

Chief of the Lakota, Nakota and Dakota Nation, invite the world to recognize
June 21st as a day of prayer for global healing. Our traditional indigenous
ways are the way to strengthen our bonds and healing for our Mother Earth.
We are the "root nation", Hutkan Oyate, with responsibility to turn the life
of our Mother Earth around.
It's now evident, with even scientific findings, that our course is leading to the endangerment of our tired Mother Earth. We are now in the midst of what is prophesied as "the cross roads", faced with either disaster, chaos, diseases, with tears from our relatives' eyes-or uniting spiritually with all nations upon Mother Earth.
This is a call for the world to seek out sacred sites and bring awareness to the energy and connection that exists there to our Mother Earth. In the past, there has been clear research findings of people coming together spiritually, praying for a healing, and our Mother Earth responded with a visible positive energy shift.
According to our star knowledge, June 21st is a time to pray. We have this chance to unite spiritually. In our way there is no beginning and no ending to continue to work toward peace and harmony for our Mother Earth so there is much healing for our nations of future generations.
This year, we complete the circle to the South in Costa Rica. This journey started in 1996 at Gray Horne Butte, Wyoming, circled North in 1997 to the Cree Nation of Joseph Big Head Reservation, then East at the Sacred Pipestone Quarries in 1998. Costa Rica was chosen as the South site to complete the cycle because of the need to support already established efforts of the University of Peace and its non-military existence. We are inviting the surrounding Indigenous Peoples of the South, and all Indigenous people of the world to either join us, or, if it is not possible to journey to Costa Rica, go to their sacred site.
May peace be with you, all life upon Mother Earth.

World Peace and Prayer Day is the fulfillment of prophecy from our ancestors-not only Lakota, but of other Peoples' of Earth. Chief Looking Horse is the catalyst for the vision he keeps-an inherited responsibility of what the White Buffalo Calf Pipe stands for: Peace, with the ancestral vision of obtaining Peace through the help of the spirituality of all Peoples! The vision and endeavor is for all people from all cultures and beliefs to come together and pray for Global Healing. If we view our ways with ethnocentricity, we destroy the very empowerment by which we fully obtain connection with the Creator.
